What to Expect: Days after Delivering Your Newborn

What to Expect: Days after Delivering Your Newborn

A lot of things happen within the first few days after your delivery. A lot of changes happen to your body, may they be physical or emotional. The sure thing is that you will be needing health care service for your postpartum recovery.

What are the things that you can expect after giving birth? Here are some of them:

  • Pain and bleeding
You may feel mild to moderate pain due to your uterus shrinking back to its size prior to the pregnancy. At the same time, you may also experience bleeding. Blood may be bright red at first but will eventually become lighter after 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Lack of sleep
Expect nights where you cannot get enough sleep or even do your personal care in Kentucky. Keep in mind that babies sleep a lot but they also tend to sleep less than 4 hours at one time. Be sure to get some sleep when your baby is asleep, too.
  • Breastfeeding
You will be producing small amounts of colostrum to feed the newborn hours after birth. In 3 to 5 days, you will already be producing breast milk. Your baby will be feeding about 8 to 12 times a day. Let them feed when they want and as long as they want.
  • Emotional changes
You will feel a rollercoaster of emotions, being happy one second then irritable at the next. These are normal. With the support of your family and taking advantage of home care services in Lexington, Kentucky, you will feel better over time.
